Hi everyone, and welcome back to InternPulse Insights! Today, we’re excited to have Christian Uche, a Product Manager! join us for an insightful conversation.
Christian Uche has a unique path to product management, and we can’t wait to learn more about his journey and experiences.
Christian, welcome aboard! To kick things off, can you tell us:
What drives you to pursue a career in product management?
I am naturally driven by a passion for problem-solving, innovation, collaboration, and identifying user needs, creating innovative solutions, working with diverse teams, and pursuing career growth opportunities.
I strongly believe I can be much more in the field of Product Management.
How do you balance meeting tight deadlines with ensuring the quality of your work?
I still struggle with this sometimes, and that is because my work requires that I am responsible for the delivery of other teams as well, not just my role.
But for the few times I overcame, I did the following:
- Prioritizing tasks and using time management to batch my tasks.
- I am always seeking feedback from the stakeholders Maintaining open communication and collaboration with stakeholders.
- I started adopting an agile development methodology. This helped me reduce the amount of bug fixes on the application.
- Implementing rigorous testing and quality assurance measures.
- Having contingency plans to proactively manage risks.
- Continuously improving processes. The more difficult the task is, the more I learn to improve the process.
How do you stay up-to-date with industry trends and new technologies?
- I read industry publications and blogs on medium.com.
- I follow industry leaders on social media. There are a few persons I follow, especially on x.com (formerly twitter)
- Lastly, I take online courses and attend bootcamps.
Can you tell us about a project you’ve worked on at InternPulse that challenged you?
Developing the PRD (Product Document Requirement) for Articraft, a Marketplace for Premium Artisans to sell quality premium handcrafted items.
As the team lead for my team I had delegated tasks to each team member.
Suddenly, one of our team members got ill and I had to double for his role and mine.
Putting all the information and research materials into presentation slides was another herculean task.
My team and I spent hours trying to ensure that the information we got all makes sense.
We spent three long straight nights to ensure that our PRD is easily comprehensible and put out.
And oh! The sleepless nights paid off as my team came tops during the presentation.
In your experience at InternPulse, what has been your biggest takeaway in terms of preparing for a professional tech career?
Hmm? I would say:
- Continuous learning. You just have to keep learning.
- Networking. This was some InternPulse established on the first day of the program.
- Communication and teamwork
