Hi everyone, and welcome back to InternPulse! Today, we’re excited to have Damilare Oladele, a Fullstack Developer from InternPulse Cohort 3! join us for an insightful conversation.

Damilare Oladele has a unique path to software development, and we can’t wait to learn more about his journey and experiences.

Damilare, welcome aboard! To kick things off, can you tell us:

1. What initially drew you to software development?

I was intrigued by the idea of creating almost anything out of thin air and executing projects from ideation to creation.

The limitless possibilities in software development captivated me and sparked my passion for the field.

2. Can you describe a recent coding challenge you overcame and what you learned from it?

Recently, I assisted a credit bureau in integrating a file upload system to perform bulk account updates instead of executing single updates multiple times.

I developed a solution that accepts CSV and Excel file formats, verifies properly formatted column headers and data, converts the data to JSON, and updates the various accounts. Overcoming this challenge taught me the importance of persistence and embracing failure.

By not giving up and learning from setbacks, I was able to excel and deliver a robust solution.

3. In your opinion, what are the most important qualities for a successful software developer?

Self-confidence and embracing failure are crucial qualities for a successful software developer. You need to believe in yourself because no one else will do it for you.

Embracing failure is essential for growth and improvement.

Initially, I was terrified of failing and making mistakes, but once I started viewing failure as a learning opportunity, I experienced significant growth, and my imposter syndrome diminished.

4. What are you most excited about in the future of software development?

I am excited about working with AI and creating groundbreaking software that goes beyond the traditional fintech solutions that Africa is known for.

I envision developing more creative and innovative ideas and solutions.

The limits of technology are only bound by our imagination; the wilder the dream, the more attainable it becomes.

  1. Very insightful, indeed!
And I liked the fact that you see failure as a learning curve. Funny how I used to be very scared of failing too because I had this idea of perfectionism, but once I started seeing failure as a part of learning and life generally, it made me feel more confident in myself and in my abilities, knowing that failing at something or making mistakes isn’t the end of the world, and there’s certainly room for self-improvement.
